A province in north-west of Iran, with cold weather. The name derives from word ‘Azar’ meaning fire, without which such harsh winters are not tolerable.
History
The history of East Azarbaijan dates back to the Median dynasty. Today’s Azerbaijan is a product of changes and alterations.
Geography
East Azarbaijan has a border with Azerbaijan Republic and Armenia. It neighbors West Azarbaijan to the west, Ardabil province to the east, and Zanjan province to the south. Aras river and Mount Sahand are the most famous natural attractions in this province.
Climate
East Azarbaijan is one of the coldest and snowiest provinces of Iran but has diverse micro-climates in a different part of it. Despite its cold winters, hot summers can be experienced in this province.
