Turtles Nesting Beach
Every year from the early March, the Hawksbill Turtles which are recognized as the endangered species enter into Qeshm Island , lay eggs and go back to the sea. There is a site near Shib Deraz village, known as the Marine Turtles Nesting Beach and annually attracts a large number of tourists who eagerly come to visit the site and see the turtles laying eggs as well as the baby turtles hatching which starts from late May until mid-July when thousands of baby turtles are released by the youth of Shibderaz Village.
While the ladies of this village do help the project with making and supplying some beautiful handicrafts related to the project, the young boys do directly play a very active role throughout this conservative project; they collect the turtle eggs, bury them in the specified pits and after approximately 50 days which the hatchery occurs, they release the baby turtles into the sea.
