Ardebil Province

Located in north-west of Iran, benefiting from a good climate, known as the ‘countryside of Iran’. The province offers a combination of natural and historical tourist attractions, including Mount Sabalan and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Sheikh Safi Ensembles.
The region receives a high volume of visitors during the summer months who come for enjoying the temperate fresh air.
History
Historians believe Ardebil’s name is derived from ‘Ard’, meaning holy, and ‘Vil’, meaning city in ancient Aryan languages. So, it means ‘The Holy City’.
The city has been always considered as important due to its natural conditions and strategic location. There have been several archaeological sites discovered around the province dating back to pre-Islamic era. There are also many Islamic era monuments to visit in the province.
Yari Archaeological sie, near Meshginsha, is evidence of multi-thousand inhibition in this province.
The apex of Ardebil elegance dates back to the Safavid era, once Sheikh Safi-uddin Ardebili’s family were in power.
Geography
Ardebil Province is surrounded by Sabalan, Talesh and Bozghoosh mountains. It is neighbouring Zanjan province to the south, East Azarbaijan to the west and Gilan province to the east. It also has a border with Republic of Azarbaijan on its north.
Ardebil is famous for its natural hot springs.
Climate
Being surrounded by high and snowy mountains has given this province a cold climate. The best time for visiting the Province is spring and summer. However, Ardebil is also a destination for winter activities, including ski as well.
