One of the largest provinces in Iran, lying to the north-east of Iran. Its capital, Mashad is considered as the religious capital of Iran. Million of pilgrims visit this province every year.
History
Khorasan was an important part of Iran in different eras of history. Its capital, Mashad, gain importance after the burial of the eighth Shi’ite Imam.
Geography
Razavi Khorasan is the north-eastern part of Big Khorasan, bordering Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
Internally, it’s surrounded by North Khorasan, Semnan, and South Khorasan provinces.
Mt. Binalud, with over 3000m height, is the highest point in this province.
Climate
It’s situated in a semi-arid area. It has warm summers and cold winters.
